01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Before the pot even comes to a boil, there is time to hear about the names and roles of the medicinal herbs. Diners have praised the experience of watching staff explain each herb and spice as they add it to the pot, bringing a little learning to the meal. The two broths have distinct appeal: one diner remembered the gentle savouriness of the white broth, while another enjoyed the heat and sweetness of the mala. Rather than relying on spice alone, this hot pot invites you to move between the two broths and explore how their herbal flavours work with the ingredients.

The course includes a platter of vegetables, lamb, pork loin and chicken, as well as xiaolongbao, Chinese noodles to finish and a mini dessert. It is a generous spread to enjoy around the pot. Some reviewers have found unexpected interest in ingredients such as dried shredded daikon, dried Chinese yam and boiled dumplings. The course description also notes that the types and quantities of herbs and spices are adjusted with the seasons, adding another reason to ask about what is going into the broth.

For a drink to go with the herbal hot pot, try the house-made gin and tonic: an original gin infused with more than ten kinds of spices and Chinese medicinal herbs, topped with a lightly sweetened tonic. It is described as crisp, with a distinctive bitterness, and suggested as a first drink. Other options include jasmine shochu with chrysanthemum and a spice ginger highball made with dry ginger ale.

A vegan medicinal hot pot course is also available and contains no animal products; it must be requested when booking. Reservations are recommended for dinner, so consider choosing your course and drinks in advance for a leisurely evening around the pot.
